Backyard Gardening and its contribution in saving the environment

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

This a way where one can still do gardening even with a very little presence of soil in their household. Using PET bottles used for softdrinks and water containers and making a simple structure where you can put soil into it an viola! a garden of your own.

Gardening per se helps in solving environmental issues such as global warming. It may not be a big contributor but if massively done or created as culture, can help significantly is promoting social awareness.

Here are some of the benefits of backyard gardening:

1. Reduce Air pollution

Plants inhale carbon dioxide and exhales oxygen. In that simple equation, Plants help in lessening too much CO2 suspended in the air and add more oxygen so that we can breathe clean air.

2. Reduce Land and Water Pollution

The problem with waste is the poor segregation. If one household will not segregate, biodegradable (which should naturally decompose) is mixed up with the non-biodegradable (which should be recycled) therefore creating LAND pollution. Backyard gardening gives an option not to mix the two and save the biodegradable to help in the flourishing of plants.

3. Maintain Ecological equilibrium

Ever heard of the ecosystem? In grade school, we are taught of the worm eat the leaves then the bird eat the worm and the cat will eat the bird and an eagle eats the cat and the food chain goes on until it reaches decomposition back to the soil where plants grows. Plants starts the cylcle and creates a natural balance where one organism or life form can benefit.

4. Stress Reliever.

Stress can kill a person. Just google it and a lot of studies will confirm that. You might want to have a green sight around you wherein you will be fascinated on how natural growth takes pace and even benefit in the fruits of your hardwork by making a salad.

Is backyard gardening possible in urban jungle? All concrete and little soil. How can that happen? Check the photo above.
